Going Green

With St. Patrick's Day coming up this weekend, I thought it would be fun to do a week of green/Irish themed nails. I'm not sure if I will be able to keep up with daily posting, but I will try to get one in every day. Up first is a fairly simple mani with a base of Wet N Wild's SaGreena The Teenage Witch. Very pretty color...very bad formula! I lost count of how many coats I had to do with this one but somewhere between 4 and 5 which really isn't worth it to me. At any rate, I then stamped the clover design with Sephora's Aluminum Gold on all but my index finger, on that one I applied one coat of China Glaze Blonde Bombshell. Stay tuned for more green!

Julep Jodie

The third polish I got in my Julep Maven box this month is Jodie. Jodie is described as a deep rose with gold shimmer which is pretty much spot-on for this color. Very easy to apply, two coats are shown. Right now Julep is also having a Mystery Box special which you can find here; enter code "GREEN" to get this deal for only $19.99!! The box is a $60-200 value, mine is already on the way! If you haven't signed up for the Maven box, you can do that here.

Julep Nails

So a few days ago I posted about my Julep Maven box for this month and promised some swatches, today I have two for you. :) First up is Charlotte, a gorgeous dusky lavender cream. This one is amazingly smooth and easy to apply, one coat pictured here. That is one of the things I am loving about Julep's polishes is that they tend to be great with just one coat.

Next I layered Melissa over the top of it. Melissa is described by Juelp as "sheer opalescent shimmer adds a soft glow when used alone and a high-fashion holographic effect when used over another color." Intriguing to say the least. I was going to show it alone but couldn't get the pics to come out very well.

Notice anything about this pic? Well, there are two different colors shown here, can you tell the difference? On my index and ring finger is Julep's Melissa, like I mentioned above, one coat. On my middle and pinkie finger is two coats of Pure Ice Mint Dream. Now, I do love Julep polish but... I can barely (if at all) tell a difference here! But, where I can notice a difference is in my bank account. Julep retails for $14 for 8mL, Pure Ice can be found at Wal-Mart, Walgreen's and other drug stores and typically retails for under $2 for 15mL. A bit easier to swallow for me anyway. :)

What do you think?

Pink Cadillac!

Elvis' Pink Cadillac to be exact. I got this little beauty in the mail last week and thought it would make a perfect Pink Wednesday post! This one is pretty sheer but still gorgeous and unique. I may try it layered over Essie Raise Awareness next time... I wish I would have gotten the full size! As of the last time I checked this beauty is out of stock over at Pretty and Polished, but keep checking back as she tends to restock often! :)

OPI DS Classic

I have had this polish for some time and I'm not quite sure why I haven't worn it before now. This is sort of a new obsession for me and over the past couple of months my polish stash has grown from a few to...well lots of polishes! I still have LOTS that I have yet to wear. Anyway, on to this lovely polish! For this mani I really wanted some simple stamping, something wouldn't take away from the beauty of the polish. I love the formula of the DS Classic, it is a bit sheer on the first coat but the second is perfect coverage. For the stamping I finally decided on China Glaze Crimson. You would think from the name that it would be a deep red, at least that is what I think of as Crimson. But it is really a deep plum color which accented the gold of the DS Classic perfectly.
Base: OPI DS Classic
Stamp Color: China Glaze Crimson

March Juelp Maven - It Girl Box

Sorry for the lack of posts over the past few days, my hubby has been sick and it has been a bit crazy around here! I got my March It Girl box yesterday and have some quick box shots for you this evening. I have a couple of thoughts and comparisons I would like to do this week with some a couple of these but for now I will just show you these. If you haven't already signed up for your Maven box, you can do so here, this is only my second month, but so far I LOVE IT! :)

L-R: Jodie, Charlotte, Melissa

When I got the preview for this month I was a little worried that Charlotte was going to be really close to Anne, which I already have. When it showed up and I put the two together it is clear they are not. Charlotte is much more dusky and Anne is brighter. Both very pretty, but clearly different. I will try to get a swatch of them done this week. :)

An Experiment With Dots

I have seen a lot of amazing nail art around the web lately and thought I would give it a shot. I started with a base of a black creme polish and chose OPI An Affair In Red Square (my FAVORITE red!) for the dots. I started with the end of a paintbrush dipped in the red in the center of each nail and then used a dotting tool to make smaller dots around the larger center dot. I then went back and added more dots in the negative space directly above the first "row". I still need some practice, some of them are a bit off, but overall I think I like how it turned out.
